That is exactly how this creepy place in York, UK has been left. Some thought it was an abandoned psychiatric hospital, but it’s still in used to this day. But one part of the hospital has been abandoned for over 40 years.
The Retreat in York is a psychiatric hospital that was built to improve care for the Quakers in 1796, and it is still open today.
However, the basement of the hospital has been left untouched for over 40 years.
Items that were found inside the abandoned basement include a monkey skull.
An old blood pressure tester.
These boilers were installed in 1922 and quit working in the 1970s.
The boiler room has not been used since the boilers stopped working. But a poem from 1915 was found on the pin boards there.
The mortuary, built in the 1920s, has laid unused for decades but the original table was found preserved.
There were plenty of dusty cupboards found with old medicines.
An Electro Convulsive Therapy (CVT) machine was found among the rooms and would have been used back in 1960s.
This is silver serving ware; it was found in cupboards. Perhaps it was used to dispense medicine or water to patients.

A trolley containing old film reels was found and was probably used around 1954 as patient training aids.
