Zadok Ben-David is a London based Artist. He was born in Baihan, Yemen in 1949 and immigrated to Israel in the same year. He graduated in advanced sculpture from St. Martin’s School of Art in London and taught at the same institution from 1977-1982. In 1988, Ben-David represented Israel in the Venice Biennale. In 2008, he was commissioned to make a sculpture for the Beijing Olympics. His art always has a relation in magic and illusion as part of his pictorial expression. Prevailing ideas and experiences are linked to civilization and technology, but discovery and innovation bring the artistic notion of fantasy and magic converting the work into serious propositions concerning the absurdity as well as the hope inherent in the human condition. He works primarily as a sculptor often using machine or laser cut metal to produce figurative sculptures of monumental scale, regardless of format. His power of communication is not only visual but is an infinite string of unconscious elements informing our identity and testing our ideas and emotions. His works feature in the collections of important public and private institutions in Europe, East Asia, United States, Israel and Australia.
