Herzog & de Meuron - Zellwegerpark, and apartment building...

Standard

Herzog & de Meuron - Zellwegerpark, and apartment building in a former industrial park, Uster 2015. Emphasis on privacy and focus on the exterior surroundings is achieved through two central elevator cores and four-exterior stair cores around the perimeter. There is no shared circulations or hallways, and each stair links directly to the unit balconies, creating a direct relationship between the park, egress, and apartment unit. Square floorplans are left fairly open, with operable sliding doors and large picture windows to create an open and flexible living space. High-end finishes of standard apartment buildings at this level are replaced with raw concrete poured with rough formwork, unfinished local timer, simple tiles, and even picket fencing designed by artist Erik Steinbrecher. Despite the visual weight of the exterior, the building appears to float over the park at ground level. Via, photos © Erica Overmeer.
