Daring Handwoven Selfies by Erin M. Riley
Erin M. Riley is an award winning fiber artist from Brooklyn, NY. All of her work is hand dyed and hand woven. Erin M. Riley’s artwork is provocative, and this series focusing on selfies is no exception. All of the images used are sourced from actual selfies found online. Erin explains that:
I grew up on the Internet, so for me nudity is very normal… I happened upon a Twitter account that was nothing but images of a girl in her underwear in the bathroom mirror. I was fascinated by the way my generation was searching to connect and remind each other that we exist moment by moment. VIA
Many contemporary fiber artists use the contrast of their materials against the polished and harsh edges of modern technical culture to get at deeper human issues. Thanks to Faith is Torment.
