Artist Tasha Lewis, who you may remember from these blue butterfly swarms, is currently showing a “moving” body of work at The Harrison Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Using hidden magnets within her mixed media sculptures, she creates the illusion that a variety of animals and plants are bursting out of their containers or through the gallery’s walls. Called Moments of Thaw, the show highlights, according to the artist, “the apparent momentary loss of solidity that the glass container, wooden box or plaster wall has experienced which allowed nature to break through.”

"They are each breaking out of the bounds set by the world around them. While the process I use carries the weight of scientific classification, the sculptures I make are anything but sterile or inanimate."
