The Roof of America: Trekking in the Peruvian Andes Eric Hodges
While most people that travel to Peru go to Machu Picchu, in 2013, I traveled to the high mountains of Northern Peru. This was a difficult 30 day trip of trekking and climbing. The vast majority of the trek was at 4200m or more with 10 high passes ranging from 4600m to 5000m. The two mountains were 5400m and 6345m. The scenery in these mountains ranges from the sublime to the overwhelming. I am very grateful to have been able to photograph them.
In August of 2014, I returned to the area. This time I trekked part of the Cedros Alpamayo route and climbed Alpamayo. These are images from this trip, which are an attempt to show the beauty and scale of this part of the Cordillera Blanca.
