Diener & Diener - Foksal gallery foundation, Warsaw 2015....

Standard

Diener & Diener - Foksal gallery foundation, Warsaw 2015. The renovation of a 1965 modernist building (with one of Poland’s earliest curtain wall systems), the project has stirred a contentious debate amongst locals. The brutal intervention, with precast concrete panels hung from the existing structure, is certainly a play in contrast to the open and glassy historic structure. Reliefs and projecting profiles create a distinct tension between open and closed while maintaining a rhythmic repetition found in the existing facade. However photos show misalignments in the panels, corners overlapping where it appears they shouldn’t; unfortunately these apparent errors in construction negates much of the precision that might have made this renovation more successful.
