Identity is a tangled pastiche of history and belief, cultural pressures, the influence of parents and mentors, and individual personality. You are you and yet you do not live alone or outside of time. And like all things, that reality has its positive aspects, and negative ones. Nakeya B.’s work transcends this duality—each photograph a beautiful exploration of identity and mores and tradition vis-à-vis the contemporary black feminine.
